22 September 2007 (Brandon, SD) - It's a tradition in southeast South Dakota. Sprint cars come looking vaguely like sprint cars and anything goes. Robert Bell and the #71 sprinter showed up as it always looks, using the Cheater's Day rules at Huset's Speedway only to change tire compounds. After a scary tangle in front of him during the heat race, Robert was relegated to a start on the pole of the 2nd B Main. Unfortunately, an over-zealous right foot erased the great start Robert got on the field, and enough cars blew by to stomp on Robert's dreams of a start in the feature.
15 September 2007 (Canton, IL) - He may not have won the feature, but Robert put on the best show of the evening. After drawing the #1 pill to qualify first, Robert used his single lap of qualifying to thrill the fans as he spun out the car in turn 4, doing a complete 360, and continuing on to take the checkers. In case the crowd had not seen enough, Robert repeated the feat in his heat race. After making a great deal of changes for the dry, slick track, Robert completed the B main outside of the final transfer spot.
12 September 2007 (Spencer, IA) - Robert Bell is always one to please his fans and tonight was no exception. In the first sprint car race in Spencer in a number of years, Robert joined the World of Outlaws in competition. Robert thrilled everyone as he could not be passed during hot laps. Professionals were confused as they came down to the #71's pits to see what his magic setup was. As track knowledge evened out, and dollars became the driving force, Robert ran his heart out, but couldn't work his way through the field.
8 September 2007 (Brandon, SD) - Could have been, should have been. Robert Bell and his crew were geared up for a great night. After a great finish in the heat race, the team prepared for the feature. Unfortunately, mother nature decided to ruin everyone's plans as she unleashed a rain storm that left some haulers stuck inside the pits and everyone soaked.
3 September 2007 (Brandon, SD) - He's a non-wing kind of guy, and he proved it at Huset's Speedway on Monday night. Taking advantage of the extra racing on the long Labor Day weekend, Robert Bell made some modifications to his car to allow him to run the non-wing show. Looking like he does this every night, Robert wheeled his topless sprinter to a thrilling 6th place finish in the A feature.
2 September 2007 (Brandon, SD) - An uncommonly humid night found the moisture seeping back into the track as the feature started at Huset's tonight. Unfortunately, a miscue in the pits left Robert's sprinter with a problem. After struggling to keep it in gear while firing, Robert got the car going and joined the tail of the field at the green, giving up his 7th place starting spot after his great heat race run. Unfortunately, the first caution proved to be the end as the car hopped out of gear once again, bringing Robert back to the pits to accept a 15th place finish.
1 September 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - It wasn't the way Robert wanted to end his season at Knoxville Raceway, but it ended just the same. After a good run in his heat race, Robert pushed out for the B only to have the left front rotor come apart. After riding the hook back to the pits, the crew quickly removed the caliper and capped the line in order to get him back out. Unfortunately, Knoxville rules prohibited his return as he had brought his car back to his pits instead of the work area.
26 August 2007 (Brandon, SD) - Oh what a night! The crowd at Huset's Speedway was in for a treat when Robert Bell showed up in town. After a mediocre run in the heat race, Robert went out, guns blazing, in the feature. After starting 15th, Robert picked his way through the field to 9th, missing 8th by a frog hair battling Dusty Ballenger coming out of 4 to the checkers. The crowd was thrilled and Robert was ecstatic!
25 August 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - After two consecutive rain-outs at Huset's Speedway, Robert Bell and his crew were ready for a big night as they rolled into the Knoxville Raceway. Non-stop rain cleared away for the weekend leaving a beautiful, low humidity night for racing. The temperatures were great and the track was greasy. It was a great night for a race. After timing in a bit high, the crew went to work changing the gear to get the motor to hook up a little better. Robert ended his night with a solid run in his heat race and a 7th place finish in the B feature. From here it is back to Huset's Speedway for another show down with the best in the northern midwest.
| 11 August 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - It was a long and arduous week for Robert Bell and his crew as he got his block back Wednesday night, his engine together Thursday night (missing his scheduled qualifying night), and his engine in the car Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, a missing plug in the front of the block prevented the building of oil pressure. Not wanting to lose the engine again, Robert brought in an expert (Thanks, Jeff!) to diagnose the problem. After hours of working and testing, the problem was found and fixed (with a $1.50 part) and the engine was fired to the jubilation of the crowd! | 4 August 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - After an extremely long, and expensive week, and two painful nights of missed races, Robert Bell expects to be back on track in time for the Ultimate Challenge. A broken crank could have turned much worse without Robert's quick thinking in shutting down the car. A new crank, and some block work, and Robert expects to have all of the parts ready for reassembly on Monday morning. "It's been a long week, but I've been able to spend time getting the new car together and getting all of our spare parts pulled together. In all honesty, this puts us with pretty much a new engine after the repairs made last week. I think we're going to look really good for the Ultimate Challenge and Nationals. I just really hate missing races!" |
28 July 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - A great run was soured as the engine on the #71 sprinter gave out during the B feature tonight. After a great run on the high side, passing a couple of cars, and looking smooth, Robert sensed a vibration in the engine on the last lap as he went into 1 and quickly shut it down before it could grenade on him. "Hopefully it's just a bearing or the crank and we can get it fixed this week. I'm really bummed that I won't make it to Huset's this week." This all occurred after being chosen by the Knoxville Raceway Junior Fan Club Member of the Week as his favorite driver. I know Robert's fans will miss him up there, too.
22 July 2007 (Brandon, SD) - It's a beautiful drive from Colfax, IA to Brandon, SD, but it isn't one Robert likes to take just to watch other people race. After showing up at Huset's Speedway tonight, Robert determined that the heads and head gasket on his #71 sprinter were blown. He will have it back together for Saturday at Knoxville and be ready to put on a show!
21 July 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - Robert Bell's fans have to be feeling the excitement! Week after week, improvements are seen. This week, Robert timed in at a very respectable 16.4, and the car looks and sounds great! Not only that, but Robert has moved to running the top side and looks smoother than he ever has before. "I really feel like we're figuring some things out!" quips Robert. A blown radiator hose slowed Robert down in the B Feature, but he will get things pulled back together for Huset's on Sunday night. "I want to make sure I thank the 'Anonymous' person who bought me the new left and right rears tonight. I have the greatest fans in the world and I really feel their support every week!"
15 July 2007 (Brandon, SD) - Things continue to look up for Robert Bell as he made the trek to Huset's Speedway this weekend. Minor changes to the car continue to accumulate as the improvements continue to be made. "It's really great to be running better up here. I know I have a good car for this track and we're starting to show it a little at a time."
14 July 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - Who says fairy tales don't come true? Who would have thought that Robert Bell would be the featured guest on a television show? Who could imagine an entire page in a racing paper devoted to Robert Bell? Who dreamed that Robert would be a feature interview in the pits after making the A Feature AGAIN? His fans have always known he is that special. Robert had a great week this week and capped it off with an extremely smooth run on the top side of the track. After showing his abilities on the top side during his heat race. The team changed gears and let the engine sing during the feature. "This has been a great week! I can't believe how great we ran!"
8 July 2007 (Brandon, SD) - Little by little, Robert Bell and his team have been making changes, improving the performance of the #71 car, and thrilling the fans each week. Sometimes, a change is not the right one, and lessons are learned. "We just missed the setup tonight. We learned something, and that will move us forward for next week."
7 July 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - Twin Features Night was a night for progress for Robert Bell as he timed well into the 16s this week. Picking up 6 tenths on his second lap, Robert looked poised for a good night. Unfortunately, horsepower won out on the dry, slick track and Robert was forced to settle with a 7th place finish in the B and no spot in either feature.
4 July 2007 (Brandon, SD) - Things really looked up for Robert Bell tonight as the tireless efforts of his crew seemed to have the car back in great working order. After replacing the hymes and shocks, the car ran well and stuck to the track as it should. The throttle was well under control, and Robert worked his way patiently around the track, avoiding any catastrophes. "I think we're really getting all of the bugs worked out in time for the Nationals. I'm pretty excited about how we're running right now."
3 July 2007 (Brandon, SD) - A beautiful South Dakota night greeted the World of Outlaws and the Huset's Speedway regulars for a spectacular night of racing. Robert Bell and his crew arrived at the track and began preparation for what promised to be an excellent night of racing. After timing in with a 12.4, Robert started his heat race running well for the first 5 laps. Once again, the throttle stuck and Robert wheeled his sprinter into the infield. After a bit of diagnosis and some help from an expert, it was a determined that a tight hyme was causing the stick. The part was loosened, washers added, and Robert went out on the track for the C Feature. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough. It was determined that the hyme's internal bearings were broken, causing the stick. New hymes have been purchased, and repairs will be made for the Independence Day race at Huset's Speedway on the 4th.
1 July 2007 (Brandon, SD) - Lady luck showed up for Robert Bell at the start of the night as he drew the pole for his heat race. A strong start later, and the #71 sprinter was pulling away from the pack. A trek into the water at the bottom of the track in turn two was just enough to make the car bobble, and Robert had to relegate himself to a 5th place finish with a 13th place start in the feature. The feature looked to be yet another strong run as Robert ran with the pack until his throttle stuck on lap 15 going into turn 1. Robert spun the car and got it shut down to avoid any damage. Two nights of racing brought home the car in one piece. Things are looking up for Robert Bell and his team.
30 June 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - Sometimes you have to set small goals to gradually attain the big ones. Tonight the goal seemed small, but was huge for Robert Bell and his crew: keep the car in one piece. After the string of bad luck with rear ends and drive shafts, all new parts were put into the #71 car and Robert was pushed out onto the track. Mission accomplished. The car looked great on the slick track and completed all laps without a hint of trouble. From here, it will be on to Huset's Speedway for 3 nights of intense racing with a car that is ready to run.
24 June 2007 (Brandon, SD) - The saga continued as the rear end of the #71 sprinter came apart once again. "I'm at a loss for words. We've been over this thing again and again and can't figure out what's wrong. I'll take it down this week to get some help and see if we can get this thing back on track." The fans hope so as we are praying for a good run and a night to really cheer.
23 June 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - A valiant effort. Those are the words used to describe the efforts of Robert Bell and his crew. After the drive shaft slipped through the U joint, stripping the housing, an entire team of mechanics jumped in to get the car race-ready for the heat race. Unfortunately, lady luck wasn't done spitting on them. An effort to bleed the brakes found the bolt securing the steering assembly to be stripped. A quick change to the front axle had the team almost ready when pressure just couldn't be brought back to the brakes in time for the B Feature. The team took a step back and worked hard, bleeding the master cylinder and prepping the car for what was hoped to be a better night at Huset's Speedway the next day.
17 June 2007 (Brandon, SD) - "Not again!" Those were the collective words heard around Iowa as word travelled to the members of the #71 crew that yet another rear end problem had prematurely ended the night at Huset's Speedway. With no parts available for repairs, Robert Bell was forced to watch from the sidelines as an exciting night of racing commenced.
16 June 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - Sometimes life will kick you while you're down. That's the story for Robert Bell. After spending a very busy week building a new car after his spectacular crash at Huset's on Sunday, Robert was race-ready on Saturday. During hot laps, the rear end blew out of the #71 sprinter scattering the drive shaft, lower shaft, and gear oil all over the track. Assessment by the crew in the pits found that the shaft was 1/2-inch too long, causing the problem. The crew worked hard to get the car back together, but were unable to get Robert back on the track to race. By World of Outlaws rules, this left the Robert Bell Racing team without so much as a pat on the back from the Outlaws organization. "It's disappointing. I realize we are not one of these high dollar Outlaws teams, but they could at least have provided tow money for the effort." Let's hope that Huset's provides a better night for him.
10 June 2007 (Brandon, SD) - Robert Bell put on a show like no other at Huset's Speedway. Unfortunately, it was not one he wanted to star in. A competitor's blown engine quickly turned into a spectacular crash for the #71 sprinter. However, the fans have nothing to fear! Robert will have the car back together and racing in time for the show at Knoxville Raceway this weekend followed by another crack at Huset's. Anyone with pictures or video are invited to submit it to the site for posting.
9 June 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - A picture-perfect southern Iowa evening greeted the racers as they rolled into the Knoxville Raceway. Robert Bell and the crew of the #71 sprinter prepared for another night of racing action. Mother Nature and her surplus of rain in the area seemed to have taken its toll on the track as ruts and grooves were the story of the night. Driving a smart race, Robert paced right along with the competition, taking care of his equipment to see another day. "The weather is not making things easy for the officials here (at Knoxville Raceway), but they are doing a great job getting it as close to perfect as possible. This rain is helping our crops, but doesn't do much for the racing surface." Robert will be heading up to Huset's Speedway tonight for another round of points action.
3 June 2007 (Brandon, SD) - A good night turned great as Robert Bell and the #71 sprinter rolled into Huset's Speedway. After wisely pacing himself in his heat race and taking care of his equipment, Robert Bell took off like a rocket during the feature. Starting 18th, Robert quickly diced his way through the field into the top 10. An ill-timed caution, however, proved to be the bad luck of the night as a jumble in turn one on the restart with six to go put Robert back in 13th. "I just lost my momentum and never got back up there. We were running great! Without that caution, we could have taken a couple of more cars and finished solidly in the top 10. Things are really turning aournd this season!" That's great news that we are all ecstatic to hear!
2 June 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - Mother Nature threated to win the night again at Knoxville Raceway as ominous clouds hung over the track all night. The Knoxville officials did an excellent job of keeping the night going with all 3 classes to be run in order to keep her at bay. After losing the caliper on the inboard brakes on the #71 sprinter during his heat race, Robert managed to safely roll the car into the pits for repairs without causing so much as a caution. The crew immediately went to work, taking off the left rear and working to get the brakes fixed for the B feature. Robert got a great start at the green, passing a couple of cars while hugging the bottom of the track and went on to finish in 11th place.
27 May 2007 (Brandon, SD) - Perfect weather and a perfect track greeted Robert Bell at Huset's Speedway. A few adjustments to the #71 sprinter during the week proved to be the key as Robert's ability to accelerate off the corners showed solid strength. After gaining only one spot in the heat race, Robert was running solidly in a transfer spot in the B Feature when the rear axle suddenly snapped. In a show of true skill and artistry, Robert threw the car out of gear and shut her down, avoiding a tumble down the track that could have made things much worse. "This car is running awesome! I can't wait to get to Knoxville next week!" I'm sure Robert's fans feel the same way!
19 May 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - A chilly night greeted the racers at Knoxville Raceway. A well fought battle on a rough track found Robert Bell 13th in the B Feature.
12 May 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - Mother Nature set forth a gorgeous night for racing at the Knoxville Raceway for the IRA / Knoxville challenge. After making a couple of adjustments post-qualifying, Robert Bell took 12th in his heat and passed his way to 8th in the C Feature.
5 May 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - A windy night greeted the crews at the Knoxville Raceway. After timing in with a respectable 16.578 seconds, Robert Bell took 9th in his heat and 12th in the B.
28 April 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - An extremely tough field of Outlaws rolled into Knoxville this weekend. The Bell Motorsports sprinter fought hard, but was no match for the well-funded national teams that tore through a rain-tortured Knoxville track for a thrilling night of racing.
21 April 2007 (Knoxville, IA) - Robert Bell thrilled the masses at the Knoxville Raceway, racing his way into the 410 feature. Clinging to the high side of an extremely racy track, the fan favorite picked his way past cars in the B main to take the sixth and final transfer spot into the big show. As always, Robert stayed in the pits long after the races were over to speak to his loyal fan base. "I didn't realize we put on such a good show! I was just trying to keep my nose clean and stay at the top of the track where I felt fast! I think running with the Sprint Invaders last year really helped me develop as a racer!"
